Day 1: Perth to Dunsborough
Our Margaret River and Esperance adventure begins as we travel south from Perth with our first stop at the popular tourist town of Busselton, where it’s hard to miss the 19th-century Jetty stretching 1.8km into Geographe Bay. Here we’ll have a coffee on the waterfront, stroll along the white sandy beach and chat about what exciting things are to come. A little way down the road we’ll stop at the breathtaking Meelup Beach where we’ll have some lunch and quick swim.
Saying goodbye to paradise (don’t worry there will be plenty more) it’s time tantalise those taste buds as we spend the whole afternoon tasting our way around the Margaret River region. We’ll visit boutique wineries, breweries, a chocolate factory and a cheese factory, sampling as we go. We’ll be having dinner and spending the night in popular tourist hotspot Dunsborough, loved for its sparkling calm clear water, white sandy beaches and great evening vibes.
Notes:
- Drive time today is about 3½ hours with lots of stops along the way
- Lunch and dinner are included
- Accommodation in Dunsborough: Multi-share or Single/Twin upgrade – shared bathroom facilities
Day 2: Dunsborough to Walpole
This morning you’ll meet Wardandi custodian Josh, who will introduce you to the world’s oldest living culture with his authentic and personal interpretation. Go deep down into the Ngilgi Cave for a memorable didgeridoo cave experience, taste native foods, discover bush medicine and experience traditional fire lighting on this unique indigenous cultural experience.
Swing by the tiny town of Yallingup to check out some of the world’s best waves before arriving into the township of Margaret River, nestled between vineyards and towering Karri forests. Premium wine & produce, surfing, art and a love for nature combine to be the soul of this town and you’ll have some free time here to explore the eclectic mix of shops and galleries.
We’ll stop at Hamlin Bay before making our way to the 50 metre Diamond Tree, a native karri tree once used as a fire lookout and only one of three wooden top towers in the world. If you are feeling brave you can climb the tree before making our way into the pristine wilderness region of Walpole, home of the Valley of the Giants.
Notes:

Day 3: Walpole to Albany
This morning you’ll discover the stunning beauty of the Valley of the Giants, a giant forest of towering Red Tingle trees, many of which are over 400 years old. We’ll spent some time here doing the Ancient Empire walk and treetop canopy walk.
From the forest to the ocean as next its onto William Bay National Park where you will amazed by the paradise that is Greens Pool. A magical beach completely sheltered it’s the perfect place to have a swim before heading onto yet another laid back and beautiful township of Denmark for lunch.
After lunch we’ll cruise along a glorious stretch of coastline to Albany, seeing how years of natural erosion have crafted incredible rock sculptures and granite bluffs – the Natural Bridge and The Gap are two of our favourites. We’ll have some time have a look around the historical township before dinner. We’ll overnight in Albany after an easy day of driving of around 2 hours.

It’s a bit of a climb but worth every bit of effort as you are rewarded with breathtaking views over the region.

The ocean here is practically transparent, the local eastern grey kangaroos are regularly sun-baking on the beach and the sand at Lucky Bay has twice been judged Australia’s whitest. So beautiful is this park we will be spending the whole day here exploring, swimming, bushwalking and you’ll also have some free time to do whatever you please.

After exploring the area we’ll head to the historic township of York, WA’s oldest inland town. We’ll also see the Rabbit Proof Fence which was built between 1901 and 1907 to keep rabbits and other agricultural pests, from the east, out of Western Australia.
