What your day may look like
Experience the role of a marine biologist on the Great Barrier Reef with our immersive Cairns Marine Conservation Reef Experience. Join a small group of passionate individuals as you embark on an unforgettable itinerary:
Morning:
Board our eco-certified motorised sailing catamaran, Passions III, with a maximum of 12 participants in your group.
Meet your experienced and certified Master Reef Guide, a leading expert in reef interpretation and conservation. Your dedicated Master Reef Guide host will provide a personalised experience from start to finish.
Set sail to one of the many exclusive outer reef locations we have permits for.
Activity 1: Eye on the Reef Program
As part of your Cairns Marine Conservation Experience we contribute to ongoing reef monitoring by completing Sightings Network submissions and Rapid Monitoring Survey Reports for the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.
Work closely with your Master Reef Guide as you survey reef locations and monitor the health of the ecosystem.
Gain hands-on experience in data collection and become an integral part of reef conservation efforts.
Activity 2: Coral Nurture Program
This activity is in collaborate with the University of Technology Sydney in monitoring Coral Planting initiatives.
Monitor the nurturing and restoration of coral reefs, playing a vital role in their preservation.
Learn about the importance of coral ecosystems and the challenges they face.
Afternoon:
Enjoy a delicious chef-prepared lunch onboard, all using fresh local ingredients.
Engage in marine biology discussions and gain insights from your knowledgeable guide.
Activity 3: Snorkelling and Exploration
Dive into the turquoise waters of the Great Barrier Reef, surrounded by stunning corals and diverse marine life.
Discover the mesmerising beauty of locations such as Whale Bommie and Three Sisters while spotting vibrant fish species, inquisitive turtles, and perhaps even catch a glimpse of white-tipped reef sharks.
Sailing Home:
Sail back to Cairns, reflecting on your invaluable contributions to reef conservation.
Share your experiences and observations with fellow participants, forging lasting connections.
Leave with a deepened understanding of the reef’s fragile ecosystem and the importance of its protection.

Dietary Requirements
Tell us about any dietary requirements where meals are included on the booking form.
Trip Physicality and General Health
This trip rates 2 out of 5 meaning it includes some easy physical activities.
Snorkelling is a relatively low-intensity activity and does not require high levels of physical fitness to enjoy.
Please do tell us if you think any physical activities can aggravate a medical condition.
Upon boarding all guests will fill out a simple medical questionnaire that allows the crew the chance to offer many different kinds of personalised assistance throughout your day.

Itineraries may be subject to change due to weather events and unforeseen circumstances.
Scuba Diving (if relevant)
Diving Information
- Certified divers need their certification cards
- Certified dives include experienced guide
- Introductory dives are for those with no experience
- Introductory Dives with experienced PADI dive instructor with a maximum of 4 divers per group.
- This is a fully registered PADI experience
Medical Information
- All passengers must complete a QLD medical questionnaire on the boat before departure. Some medical conditions may preclude you from scuba diving (ask us)
  If you are planning to experience an introductory dive you will be asked to fill out and sign a medical declaration form
- The minimum age for diving is 12 years old with parental consent and completion of a medical questionnaire
- Passengers under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent/guardian over 18 years old
- Flying after diving?
  We recommended leaving a minimum of 24 hours after your last scuba dive before flying.
  Please note, guests can fly and then dive on the same day – but not dive and then fly.

Cancellation by Customer:
- If you cancel 48 hours or more in advance of departure: 0% fee
- If you cancel within 48 hours of departure: 100% fee
- Unless otherwise stated all refunds will incur a 6% administration fee.

Age Requirements
The minimum age to take part in this marine conservation programme is 15 years. Those participants under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult on board.

Highly recommend the catamaran day cruise! We can highlight the professionalism of the entire crew and the friendly behavior. Although the boat was fully booked, they have left enough empty space so you could switch seats easily throughout the day (inside to outside etc.). Very nice experience!

Amazing experience! Passions of Paradise has a sailing catamaran, with plenty of places to chill and sunbathe, and a comfortable diving deck on the first level. We cruised to Milne Reef where we did our diving and snorkeling on the reef. We were the only boat out there, since most day tours go out to the other reefs! The staff was very friendly, welcoming and were always up for a chat. I did two certified dives with instructor Corinda, and she was absolutely amazing! All equipment was ready for us, and after her dive briefing we knew exactly what to expect. Corinda has a really good eye, and was able to show us the very small things, but also spotted a cowtail stingray, reef sharks, groupers, barracuda’s, eels, turtles, and so much more! I was booked in for only 1 dive, but decided to do the second one as well, and I’m very happy I did! I noticed the company is very passionate about the reef, and really do a lot to protect it. Their marine naturalist was on board to answer all our questions and did a (free!) presentation about the reef during the cruise back, which was super interesting! They are also part of the coral nurture program, and apparently they are carbon neutral as well. The food on the boat was amazing as well. A crew member told me they have their own chef, so the food is freshly prepared and the lunch buffet is different every day! I can 100% recommend diving (or snorkeling) with Passions of Paradise, they are a very good eco friendly option on the reef!

Was there yesterday and it was the best experience on my trip so far! Everything well communicated, it never felt crowded even tho there were so many people apparently! Haha! The equipment is completely clean and you can feel the quality. Same with the boat, the facility’s, the crew and the food! I’m just happy it was just great. The snorkeling spots were insane. I still can’t believe I’ve been there and done that. Thank you so much for sharing this special place with us. They even have lots of great things they support and protect! So just a Great Place to be and support!

Wonderful experience! Boat was clean and plenty of seating. Loved the cushions outside to lay out during the trip to and from the reef. Ben was the perfect dive instructor, helping me feel comfortable as it had been awhile since I’d been diving. I’d highly recommend this company to friends and family. Lunch was served between dives and plenty of food was available. They had seasickness pills on board, they worked great for me as the boat was rocking a lot but they were there to help others who were getting seasick.

Had a very nice day with these guys, the staff are so attentive and friendly, I went solo but had an amazing day with other passengers. The snorkeling spots were just fascinating and beyond beautiful. The lunch was delicious and suitable for such a trip. Would definitely recommend spending a day in the outer reef with passions of paradise.
