Start your personal small group experience in Cairns, the northern beaches or Port Douglas.
For those starting the tour in Cairns and the beaches, the day begins with a trip along the world famous scenic Great Barrier Reef Drive, to Port Douglas. The road twists and turns while hugging the rainforest mountain side offering coastal vistas to die for. A stop at the elevated Rex Lookout is the perfect opportunity to capture these stunning views of the coast and Coral Sea.
Port Douglas is next and after picking those joining the tour here we enjoy another lookout, Flagstaff Hill. This is another opportunity to capture a stunning photograph, in the foreground 4 Mile Beach with a backdrop of the World Heritage listed mountainous coastline.
Mossman Gorge is not far away and where we refresh with local tea, coffee or a cold drink, before exploring this secluded gorge and rainforest paradise. The cool, clear waters of Mossman River tumble through and over giant granite boulders. We’ll take a guided walk and you have the opportunity for a swim, should you wish to do so.
Before we get into spotting the regions wildlife there is a delicious restaurant lunch to enjoy. Here you have the choice of several meal options.
In keeping with our sustainable obligations we join 100% solar powered Solar Whisper Wildlife Cruises. David and his small team of expert guides navigate this high density crocodile habitat in search for the largest reptiles in the world. The river system is also home to an array of wildlife including numerous birds of prey, waterbirds, amphibians and even the largest bats in the world, spectacles flying foxes.
Now it is time for us to cross the river driving on to the Daintree River cable ferry crossing. It’s a short ride over and we head right into the ancient Daintree Rainforest and the Alexandra Range lookout that provides panoramic views over the Daintree delta, the river itself and out to the Coral Sea.
We then wander beneath the ancient rainforest trees on a guided botanical walk, learning more about the biodiversity of the amazing ecosystem and always on the lookout for the forest ancient keystone resident, the Southern Cassowary.
Cape Tribulation, is where the rainforest meets the reef and you can take in all it’s beauty from the Kulki Lookout. This is the most northern point of our day of discovery, so from here we begin the journey home, but not before pausing at the Daintree Ice-Cream Company where you can purchase locally made tropical ice-cream (at your own expense).
If your return destination is Port Douglas, we’ll get you into town around 5.30pm. Cairns and the northern beaches a little later. One amazing day in our very own, natural paradise.
