Cape Tribulation's Nocturnal Wildlife

Join Daintree Night Walks owner and expert guide Ian Samuels for a fascinating after dark experience. Meet Cape Tribulation’s nocturnal wildlife, take in the smells of the forest and soak up Ian’s encyclopaedic knowledge gathered from over 20 years of living and guiding in the Daintree.

With over 50% of all species endemic to this continent found in our region, we are blessed with a wide variety of wildlife. In addition to frequent sightings of sleeping birds and rainforest dragons, the nocturnal walks regularly encounter forest mammals including bats and possums, many species of spiders and insects plus beautiful snakes including amethystine and carpet pythons, and brown tree snakes.

Ian is a Wet Tropics accredited biological scientist with a Bachelor of Biological Sciences degree.

Itinerary

A real jungle adventure, with exclusive access to pristine old growth Rainforest on private nature preserve bordering the Daintree National Park.

Your holistically interpretive walk along natural bush trails are deep in the forest far from public access boardwalks. Your accredited guide is a biological scientist who lives and works in this rainforest with 20 years experience guiding in Cape Tribulation itself.

The night will start at our meeting point 10 minutes before your walk starts. Grab a spotlight from your guide Ian, then enjoy a little lesson in how spot wildlife without distressing them.

The walk is approximately 2 hours and your guide will aim to spot as much Cape Tribulation’s nocturnal wildlife as possible including insects, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. You will also learn a lot about the forest, how it works and its indigenous history.

We also encourage guests to ask as many questions as they wish. Your guide loves sharing his knowledge and helping people learn more about this very special place in Australia.

Daintree night walks are an all weather event, especially in a rainforest.
