Itinerary
Morning at Mossman Gorge
Embark on a full day of exploration and discovery with our Mossman Gorge Rainforest Discovery tour!
The day starts with convenient pick-up from your Port Douglas accommodation (optional pick-up from Cairns and Palm Cove hotels available at additional price). As you journey north through historic sugar cane fields, you’ll feel the excitement building for the incredible day ahead.
Your rainforest journey begins with a traditional Kuku Yalanji smoking ceremony at Mossman Gorge, where you’ll be cleansed and protected from bad spirits. You’ll also have the opportunity to get your body painted, an ancient tradition which carries deep spiritual significance for the First Nations people of Mossman Gorge. With all the protection in place we are ready to embark on a fully guided and interpretive 4km walk through the Daintree National Park.
As we venture deeper into the national park, the steep mountain ranges behind Mossman Gorge trap moisture that blows in from the ocean, creating the perfect moist conditions for this rainforest to thrive over millions of years. As we take our 4km interpretive walk, keep an eye out for magnificent strangler fig trees, colourful lizards, and even rainforest wallabies. Admire the stunning epiphytic plants and listen to the fluttering of azure blue Ulysses butterflies under the canopy.
After your walk, we will enjoy a well-deserved lunch before our second immersive rainforest experience. In our effort to support local business lunch is at a local Mossman township cafe.
(Most dietary requirements are catered for. Please contact us for more information.)
Afternoon River Drift Snorkelling
After lunch you head to a secret location on the Mossman River for our one-of-a-kind Mossman Gorge River Drift Snorkelling tour.
Once you arrive, you’re highly trained river guide will fit you with a wetsuit, boots, and a snorkel mask, and you’ll step into the cool, crystal clear water of the Mossman River. The river’s gentle current will take you on a journey through the rainforest canopy, immersing you in the sights and sounds of this ancient wilderness.
As you float along, keep an eye out for the river’s fascinating wildlife. Spot fish darting in and around the river stones, and try to catch a glimpse of the occasional turtle or even the elusive platypus. Enjoy more than 30 species of fish living in this river and you’ll be sure to spot plenty of butterflies, rainforest birds, and maybe a couple of water dragons too.
After an unforgettable time drifting under the rainforest canopy, it’s time to dry off and head back south to your accommodation. As you reflect on your amazing adventure, you’ll be left with a deep sense of peace and awe for the beauty of nature thanks to this Mossman Gorge Rainforest Discovery.
