Itinerary
Your day at the Reef
As you arrive at Port Douglas’ Reef Marina and step aboard the Wavelength Eco Reef Cruise, the scent of the sea fills your nostrils and a sense of excitement builds. Check-in is at 8am and after a warm welcome from the crew, you embark on a 90-minute journey to the edge of the continental shelf. Passing Low Isles en route, you might catch sight of dolphins playing in the water, and in winter, you may be lucky enough to spot dwarf minke or humpback whales. The sea breeze in your hair and the gentle sway of the boat create a feeling of freedom and relaxation.
During the 90-minute journey to the reef, our knowledgeable crew will fit you with quality snorkelling gear and answer any questions you have about the day ahead.
Reef Site no.1
The crew have you ready, your equipment donned and you take your first steps into the water, the cool, refreshing sensation of the reef envelops you. The in-water marine biologist guides are on hand to guide you and help you feel comfortable. The underwater world is an explosion of colour and movement, with fish darting around and coral formations swaying in the current. The guides spend more time in the water with you to help you get going and to point things out, enhancing your experience.
Morning Tea & Reef Site no.2
After a morning tea break, you move along to another one of Wavelength’s many sites, chosen to suit the conditions on the day. Our marine biologists conduct guided snorkel tours, helping you discover aspects of the new site that might otherwise be missed. They point out some of the multitude of life forms, and you’re free to explore at your own pace. Keep your eyes open for cruising turtles, wonderfully spotted lagoon rays and take a moment to be perfectly present in nature.
Reef Ecology Talks
During lunch, our marine biologists conduct an interactive reef talk. You can ask questions on anything that you’ve seen through the day or simply sit, relax and learn all about the ecosystem of the Great Barrier Reef.
Reef Site no.3
Once everyone’s appetites have been satisfied and all questions answered, you head to your final site of the day. With a better understanding of the reef, you’re free to adventure further and where conditions permit, we may be able to experience an epic drift snorkel, riding the current and taking in the views.
Afternoon Tea and Cruise Home
Following afternoon tea, you head back to port with the wonderful view of the sun dropping towards the rainforest-clad mountains. The sense of satisfaction and wonder lingers in your mind, as you reflect on the unforgettable experience you’ve just had. Wavelength arrives back in Port at approximately 4.30pm.
