X-treme Tully River White Water Rafting

What an Eco-Adventure – X-treme Tully River White Water Rafting!

Who said eco-tourism can’t be an ‘x-treme’ adrenalin racing experience! Here at Tree Hugger Travel we love to get involved and experience everything nature has to throw at us, in this case X-treme Tully River White Water Rafting!

Raging Thunder offer an X-treme Tully River White Water Rafting experience, 5 hours of white water, surrounded by stunning World Heritage Rainforest and accompanied by some crazy guides making sure your day is ‘X-treme’… and ofcourse safe!

We started our day in Cairns at 6.25am and made the journey down towards Tully eventually rendezvousing outside Tully at the Feluga Hotel. Here we met our ‘X-treme’ river guides and the rest of our ‘X-treme’ crew who had made the shorter journey from Mission Beach.

We set off up the Tully Gorge for about 30 minutes until we reached the head of the rafting section of the mighty Tully. We were a group of 12 so split into two rafts, our guide being Alan, originally from Tasmania, and Kwi Paul was navigating the other raft.

The weather was amazing, this means slap on that sun screen, bright red sunburnt knees and thighs are as famous as the rafting itself!

After instruction we set off to navigate, fall into, slide though, swim, cliff jump and surf the 45 rapids that X-treme Tully River white water rafting has to throw at you!

‘X-treme’ is definitely the right word, crashing into rocks, backflipping off 5 meter ledges and being sucked deep into bubbly blue depths for just short of 10 seconds naming just a few crazy moments.

The scenery too is breathtaking, lush rainforest, steep cliffs, cascading waterfalls, joining rivers and creeks, and wildlife too. Water Dragons sunning themselves, dragon flies hitching rides and dazzling electric blue Ulysses Butterflies fluttering over our rafts, true tropical beauty.

We got a breather too, lunch was served up in the rainforest at a little camp, sausages for the meat eaters and awesome falafel for the veggies! We crammed on the salad and beetroot and we were loaded up with energy for the rest of the day.

Completing the full river, that is 5 hours of X-treme Tully River white water rafting, was epic and one of the best rafting experiences to date. Great guides, mother natures awesome river and stunning scenery made this the perfect action packed eco-adventure with thanks to Raging Thunder.
